Zippy the Rescue Dog - Update

Norman & Nancy

Back

[Here] are pix of Zippy with our male GP, Rex.  They are best friends.  They play so well together, so quietly, but with such speed and quickness.  Very rarely do we hear one of them cry out during play, very careful.  My son and his wife moved back to stay with us until they can get their own place.  Their first child, my first grandchild, Siena, was born Nov 11.  Rex and Zippy have been so solicitous toward the newborn.  My wife stayed up all night with the baby to give the parents a break, one night, and both dogs stayed up too.  Everytime the baby made a sound, both dogs came running to check, then to my wife, if she was a distance from the baby, as if to say, the baby needs you.  We watched all three dogs carefully to make sure there was no jealousy toward the baby.  And they are allowed around the baby only with supervision.  They sure love the baby, constantly smelling her, and checking on her if she makes a sound.

Zippy is more acclimated toward us now.  There is no fighting over food, and they share the water, drinking out of the same water bowl at the same time.  Zippy has finally come to understand the "Come" command.  She Sits on command, does a reasonable Stay, and knows "No!"  Still wouldn't trust her off-leash on walks, like we do Rex.  She can sit and stay a foot from her food bowl and wait until the command to "Go eat!" is given.  She knows Kitchen, Bed, Lie down, Off.  Intelligent dog.  And, best of all, she hasn't had an accident inside the house for a while now.  She knows to come fetch one of us if she wants to go out, going back and forth from the kitchen door to the person available.  Not as interested in treats when we're on walks, she loves her walks, excitedly going to the door leading to the garage.  She's learning to heel, but loves to smell the ground and grass, walking in a zigzag pattern to make sure she misses nothing, logging double the miles of our walk.

She is such a cutie.  She bends her head back, so far back, it seems her head might fall off.  Great personality.  She sleeps on her own bed next to Rex's bed in our bedroom.  They wait to be covered up, looking up expectantly until we cover them up.  Like little kids.

Bye for now.
